Landscapes

Ye Xin Chinese
dated 1652
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 213
A sensitive and lyrical recorder of the familiar, Ye Xin also experimented with effects of light, atmosphere, and color. His art may reflect a creative response to European images introduced to China by Jesuits in the late sixteenth century. This tiny album, small enough to tuck into one’s sleeve, would have been the perfect companion for an elegant garden visit or excursion to a local site.
