Mummy Bandage Inscribed for Paherer

Found discarded in a pit in the courtyard of the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri, this bandage was inscribed for "[Pa]herer, son of the Priest of Amun, Mayor, and Vizier, Kha(m)hor, true of voice." Beneath the name is a date, Year 9 (of an unknown king).

The name and titles of his father, Khamhor (A), identify Paherer as a vizier himself, also known as Harsiese (G.) He was the grandfather of Khamhor C, owner of a Book of the Dead discovered nearby, and likely the owner of an undecorated coffin found filled with embalming material found in the same area. The Met's Egyptian Expedition also excavated Paherer's coffin lid, which had been reused in a Roman burial.
