For the British, the stone fort at Trimium, built in the late seventeenth century, was a reminder of past military campaigns in the region and the establishment of British rule over south India. The fort remained important to local Hindus because of the adjoining temples to Shiva and Vishnu excavated in the rock. This photograph shows the brick batttlements, stone walls, and bastions of the fortress looming over a settlement of thatched houses.
