Marking: Impressed on upper surface along edge of engraved ornament:
[1] a shoe in an oval (unidentified maker's mark);
[2] a pinecone over the letter c (Augsburg town and date mark for 1737–39);
[3] a swan in an oval (French customs mark in use from 1893);
[4] script I in a horizontally hatched reserve (Dutch 19th century stamp instituted in 1905/6 for old domestic goldsmith's work).

Notes on marks:
Mark [4] apparently struck here erroneously, in place of the contemporary tax mark for foreign silver.
