Frontispiece depicting Minerva, who is presented with embroidery by two putti, from Panneaux d'ornement, plate 1, bound in Oeuvres. Vol. I

Jean Le Pautre French

Not on view

This print is bound in Volume I of Oeuvres. Jombert published his collection of Le Pautre in 1751. Volume I contains "desseins... pour la décoration des maisons, etouches, edifices;." This print is part of a series of six plates depicting panels of ornament. The series was published by Jacques Van Merlen in 1654 and by Jean I Leblond. On the Frontispiece of the series, the number I is present beneath the shield, consistent with Préaud's description of the second state. However, the inscription on the shield ends after "fecit."
