The miniature is circled by a rim of braided brown hair; the frame is glazed at back to reveal the initials RH in seed pearls and a curl of brown hair on a plaited ground of darker brown hair. The miniature is by an artist somewhat influenced by the gray sfumato manner of Richard Cosway (62.49, 24.80.499), about 1780.
