Pilgrim Flask

Not on view

Molds not only allowed for large scale ceramic production but also enabled people of modest means to own highly decorated vessels that imitated more expensive metal prototypes. The main body of this pilgrim flask was molded in two halves. The beveled-edge seam, which was smoothed over on the exterior, can now be seen on the interior along with the fingerprints of the potter due to its fracture into several pieces. The lug handles and spout were added separately.
