Guy-Patrice and Michel Dauberville. Matisse: Henri Matisse chez Bernheim-Jeune. Paris, 1995, vol. 1, pp. 700–701; vol. 2, pp. 776–77, no. 314, ill., call it "La promenade, paysage provençal" and note that it was photographed by Bernheim-Jeune in July 1919; state that Bernheim-Jeune purchased it from Matisse in 1919 and sold it to Mme Vildrac in 1920.

Rémi Labrusse. "Matisse's Second Visit to London and His Collaboration with the 'Ballets Russes'." Burlington Magazine 139 (September 1997), p. 598 n. 53 (possibly this painting), quotes from a [November 15, 1919] letter in which Matisse describes meeting a gentleman [Brandon Davis?] at the Leicester Galleries exhibition who had purchased four small Nice landscapes and one figure before the exhibition opened, and who then proceeded to buy another Nice landscape and a head of Lorette.
