Mise-en-carte with Pink Basket and Fruit and Sprays of Blue Flowers

Anonymous, French, 18th century French

Not on view

Mise-en-carte (weaving pattern), probably for woven silk, with a design motif typical of the the second half of the 18th century, particularly of the time of Louis XV and Louis XVI, when textiles were decorated with colorful garlands of flowers and leaves, as well as other naturalistic motifs and garden trophies.

This design consists of a large basket with a seamless pattern of lozenges colored with pink and white, which contains three pink fruits and a thin bundle of green branches with green leaves and blue flowers. The design is rendered over a printed squared paper that would provide the guidelines in the weaving process.
