Glass mosaic fragment

Roman

Not on view

Translucent turquoise blue appearing green, purple, and opaque yellow and white.

Convex curving oval disk.

Mosaic pattern formed from large polygonal sections of two canes: one in a blue ground with a honeycomb pattern outlined in yellow, and the other in a purple ground with a circle of white rods surrounding a central blue pattern outlined in yellow.

Polished exterior; slight pitting of surface bubbles on exterior; some dulling, pitting, and faint iridescent weathering on interior; ground edges.

Possibly part of a vessel with a curving side that has been cut down into an oval disk in modern times.
