Glass mosaic fragment

Roman

Not on view

Translucent purple and turquoise blue appearing partially green, opaque white, red, and yellow.

Flat, thin-walled section, possibly from a large, flat vessel.

Composite mosaic pattern formed from polygonal sections of three different canes: one in a purple ground with a white circle enclosing a central white rod surrounded by blue, yellow, and red bands, and the second in a blue ground with a white spiral with a central white rod, and the third in a blue ground with a yellow spiral.

Polished upper surface; slight pitting and weathering of surface bubbles and joins between canes on upper surface; dulling and iridescent weathering on underside; iridescent weathering on jagged edges.
