Plate 84 of 'A New Book of Chinese Designs', consisting of a title page, index, and 120 plates, etched and published in 1754 by the British caricaturist, printseller and ornamental engraver Matthew Darly, in collaboration with George Edwards. The book consists of a variety of ornamental and costume designs of Chinese inspiration, some of them copies of the original works (including the title).

This plate consists of six designs for panels, arranged in two horizontal rows with three designs each. The designs on the upper row have simple frames, and are separated from one another by thin vertical columns. The first design consists of a checked pattern with small rosettes flanked to the sides by three trefoils, the second design is made up of interlacing branches with leaves, and the third design consists of rows of rosettes with four trefoil petaloids, over a grid of lozenges.

The designs on the second row have frames with incisions of different shapes, and separated by thin columns. The first design consists of an abstract pattern with geometrical figures, and has quatrefoil incisions on the frame. The second design consists of rows of alternating scrolling leaves, with octagonal incisions on the frame. The third design consists of an abstract pattern with alternating rows of knots and other interlacing motifs, with oval incisions on the frame.
