In October 1844 Louis Philippe, King of the French, crossed the Channel and made a week-long visit to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Windsor Castle. This image shows the king, on October 10th, visiting the Palladian villa near the Thames where he had lived in exile between 1813 and 1815. The print is part of a bound set of twenty-five lithographs published in 1846 to commemorate Louis's visit. Related text, pp. 27-28 describes the subject.
