In October 1844 Louis Philippe, King of the French, crossed the Channel and made a week-long visit to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Windsor Castle. This image shows the king, queen and prince visiting Eton on October 12th. One of England's leading secondary schools, Eton is across the River Thames from Windsor. The print is part of a bound set of twenty-five lithographs published in 1846 to commemorate Louis's visit. Related text, pp. 43-44 describes the subject.
