White Pines Pottery American

This vase was made by Jane and Ralph Whitehead in their private pottery studio located in the attic of White Pines, their home at the Byrdcliffe Arts and Crafts school and colony in Woodstock, New York. Jane took lessons with ceramic artist Frederick Hurten Rhead in Santa Barbara, California, in 1913. This example, with its eucalyptus leaf handles in relief, may have been part of her Eucalyptus Series, inspired by a favorite motif that was symbolic of California.
