The Etching Club's establishment in London in 1841 signaled a new artistic interest in the medium and, when James McNeill Whistler arrived from Paris in 1859, he worked closely with his brother-in-law Seymour Haden to develop etching's expressive potential. The Etching Revival in Britain developed as members of the Etching Club and the Junior Etching Club produced and published a number of anthologies, such as this one, during the eighteen-sixties.
