An medieval subject set outside the priory gatehouse of Bolton Abbey, West Riding, Yorkshire. An Augustinian abbot and monk receive tribute of game. A forrester with two dogs kneels beside a dead stag, swan, duck, grouse and partridge. A falconer's assistant carries a dead heron and bittern. A fisherman's daughter brings trout. Based on a painting of 1834 now at Chatsworth House, Devonshire.
