Plus fours were a style of knickers worn in the 1920s for sporting activities, especially golf. They gained widespread popularity from the Duke of Windsor, who favored wearing them with patterned wool socks. Their name is in reference to the fact that they were four inches longer than classic knickers. The broken herringbone pattern is particularly striking in this example.
