Fragment of a marble relief with the head of a girl

Greek

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 156

This small head probably comes from a votive relief with a number of figures gathered to worship a god. The girl's sweet expression and her hair in coils that resemble a melon are typical of art of the fourth century B.C.
