Not on view

This print reproduces Landseer's 1835 painting of a favorite deerhound Hafed, with the animal shown in profile to the left, extending its tongue slightly, and wearing a collar with ring at the front. Landseer created the image on commission for "The Sportsman's Annual" who published it in the same year as one of a series of lithographed dog portraits. Charles George Lewis then began work on a large etched version for Ackermann & Co. which they issued in 1837 (see 47.30.39 and 52.588.6). Finally, several decades later, "The Art Journal" asked Lewis to create the present work and published it with an accompanying descriptive text.
