The Cow in the Reeds

Carl Wilhelm Kolbe German

Not on view

One of the more unusual artists of his time, Kolbe revelled in creating a world in which nature, in particular flora, dominates by virtue of its size and density. He created twenty-eight such prints which he called Kräuterblätter (vegetable prints). The wading cow in this etching, one of Kolbe's most striking prints, almost merges with the thick and gargantuan vegetation that surrounds him.
