A Pedigree of Walpole

Anonymous, British, 18th century British

Not on view

Armorials of the Walpole Family and their alliances through marriage. A large armorial at right side conflates these with a list of quarterings. The left side traces Walpoles from King Edward I down to generations that followed Horace Walpole, with children born in the 1770s. The right side traces another branch of the family, the de Walpoles. Horace Walpole published a similar pedigree in 1776 titled "A Pedigree of the Walpoles to Explain the Portraits and Coats of Arms at Strawberry Hill."
