This plate first appeared in the Lettere di Giustificazione scritte a Milord Charlement. It is a reduced version of the original frontispiece to the fourth volume of Le Antichità Romane (first published 1756). Beginning in the early 1760s, Piranesi incorporated a version of this plate into the revised edition of the Opera Varie.
