Inkwell with the Name of Amir 'Abdullah ibn al-Hasan Pars

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 453

"Floriated kufic" is a style of writing in which the angular letters of the kufic script are melded with curvilinear plant forms that fill the spaces between the letters. The letters themselves remain relatively unchanged, except for some terminal letters that end in upstrokes instead of facing down.
