Relief fragment from a row of vulture figures
Middle Kingdom
Several examples of the griffon vulture, bird of the goddess Nekhbet of el-Kab in Upper Egypt and hieroglyph for “mother,” appears in this group of fragments. Such depictions would have served to evoke the protection of this powerful deity.
