This series contains 15 plates reproducing the tapestries designed by Raphael's apprentices for the wainscotting under the Vatican tapestries in the Sistine Chapel. The tapestries depict scenes from the life of Pope Leo X, who commissioned them. The series is dedicated to Prince Leopoldo de'Medici. As Passavant notes, plates No. 8 and 10 do not represent scenes from the life of Leo X, despite Bartoli's captions added to the plates. Passavant writes that the scenes refer to the persecutions of Christians.
