Farinati refers to this print as a 'Magdalen that he made in print' in his own Giornale that served as a model for a small painting commissioned in 1581 (see Marini 2005, no. 193). The painting has been identified as the one in the National Gallery in Prague (inv. 814). Rather than being based on the print, the painting and the print depend on the same drawn model.
While described as a first state by Albricci, this impression might represent a second state, after changes to the right arm of Christ on the cross. Impressions in The Metropolitan Museum (26.70.3(235)) and the British Museum (X,2.49) may represent an earlier state in which the arm and hand of Christ are still incomplete
