Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of a Merveilleuse, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a white ball gown, with a deep, triangular neckline on the back, and empire-cut waist, both marked with thin ruffles, short sleeves, and a double, ankle-length skirt. The underskirt is bordered by three layers of scallops, and thin, horizontal stripes. The outer skirt is decorated with a strip of white ribbon bows and bundles of pink roses, purple grapes, white daisies, and green leaves. A bundle of pink roses and green leaves adorns the chest. The hair is pulled up, decorated with a strip of pearls, which match the pearl earrings and necklace. White gloves, stockings, and flat, pointed shoes, tied with laces around the ankles, complete the white outfit.
