Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of a Merveilleuse, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a white percale dress, with empire waist, and five layers of flares on the lower part of the skirt, and a red velvet canezou jacket with tassels on the shoulders and under the waist, a scallop-edged hood that envelops the back of the neck, and long sleeves with matching shape, covering the back of the hands. The Levantine hat is made up of a short-brimmed, bell-shaped hat of pink color, surrounded by large, white feathers with pink tips. A thin, gold necklace with a golden pendant with three small, red stones hangs around the neck. The hands are covered with white gloves, one of them holding a small magnifying glass with golden frame, the other a pocket book with brown covers. The legs are covered with white hose and pointed, black ankle boots with small buttons.
