Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of an Incroyable, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 male and female costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a green, double-breasted coat with wide sleeves over a white vest with pink vertical stripes, unbuttoned on the chest to reveal an ample, white scarf wrapped around the neck to form a knot under the chin, white breeches with yellow buttons, loose ribbons under the knees, and brown and black riding boots. The hair is worn short, with long side-whiskers. The hands are covered by yellow gloves, one of them holding a black short-brimmed top hat, the other a knotty wooden cudgel. A small brooch, with stylized, brown leaves and red and blue fruits hangs under the vest.
