Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of an Incroyable, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 male and female costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a black top hat, a gray coat with wide sleeves, bluish-gray tight-fitting breeches, and black boots with tassels and metallic heels. The collar of a yellow and purple vest is seen peeking out of the coat's collar, and a white scarf with thin, red stripes on the borders is tied around the neck to form a bow under the chin. The hands are covered by yellow gloves, one of them holding a small, yellow handkerchief, the other a knotty wooden cudgel.
