Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of a Merveilleuse, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a long, green coat with long, puff sleeves, short, yellow collar, and white, scallop-edged lace borders and a black velvet hat with wide brim, also with scallop-edged lace border and decorated with large, black feathers. Yellow gloves cover the hands, one of which holds a white fichu handkerchief with scalloping edges. The legs are covered with white hose, and the feet with black pointed shoes with small bows on the front and thin straps tied around the ankles.
