Hand-colored engraving with design for the costume of a Merveilleuse, part of the book "Incroyables et Merveilleuses," with 33 costume plates designed by Horace Vernet and engraved by Georges Jacques Gatine, published ca. 1815 in Paris. The costume in this plate consists of a yellow straw bonnet with small pompons around the border, an ankle-length, long-sleeved dress with blue bodice, blue belt with a ribbon at the back with long, loose tails, scallop-edged white collar, and white skirt, and brown boots. A blue parasole with white borders and blue and white tassels, white gloves, and a white scarf with a red checked pattern, tightly tied around the neck, complete the outfit.

Two men surround the woman shown in the illustration with the outfit presented: one is wearing an emerald green double-breasted jacker, open over a white vest and shirt, and olive green trousers, a white scarf tied around the neck, black top hat on the head, and black boots; the other wears a red military jacket with gold and green details, white trousers, and black hat and boots, holding a thin, long cane on one hand, behind his back.
