Sidi Masud Khan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 693

Sidi Mas’ud Khan, an important minister at the Bijapur court, remained in power until 1683. He then governed at Adoni, in the Kurnool district, where, like several other African patrons of architecture in the region, he built a notable mosque. The oval format of this portrait suggests that it comes from an album of images of eminent men, often made for export at Golconda.
