Full Dress for 1828: Dedicated to the Feathered Race

William Heath ('Paul Pry') British
Publisher Thomas McLean British

Not on view

This fashion caricature represents a lady whose gown is decorated with three rows of pink and yellow feathers around the skirt, with more springing from her shoulders. In 1829 Heath devoted a series of prints to exaggerated elements of female dress. From 1827–29 Heath used the image of a little dandy holding an umbrella to sign prints, seen here at lower left, a reference to Paul Pry, a nosy character in an 1825 play by John Poole.
