Heath here uses stages of a dandy's day to make fun of fashionable male dress. At left the gentleman wears a flowered dressing gown, reads the "Literary Gazette," drinks coffee and wears curling papers in his whiskers and hair. At center he has prepared to embark on social activities, with hair now curled and resplendant in a tight waisted brown riding coat over trousers so wide they resemble a skirt. For evening, at right, he has changed into a dark green cutaway coat and tight black pantaloons as he strums a guitar. Like many of Heath's prints from this period, it is signed with a small top-hatted dandy holding an umbrella–Paul Pry, a nosy character from a play.
