Beerbohm's first book, composed of articles written for various English periodicals while a student at Oxford. Although 1000 copies were issued, 401 of these copies were pulped by the publisher in 1901. The American edition is the true first edition of The Works, as it was released several days in advance of the English edition. -- vendor's description.

Brown cloth stamped with a symmetrical pattern of golden balls and white butterfly wings beneath them all connected by twisted golden ribbons; same design on spine with title stamped in gold. Top edge gilt. Signed MA [Margaret Armstrong].
