"The Codex Rodriguez-Mondragón, a series of maps, botanical drawings, and other related works by Los Angeles-based artist, Sandy Rodriguez performs Reconquista, reclaiming the land taken from our indigenous ancestors by Europeans over 500 years ago. In the series of images and the related sculptures that comprise this installation, and the intensive research and creative processes that sustain them, Rodriguez recovers and revitalizes traditional indigenous knowledge, histories, and artistic practices. In the process she decolonizes our past, offering hope for our present and a more just future for the Americas."--Page 3

"Processing native plants and earth pigments into the dyes and watercolors that she uses to paint the Codex, Rodriguez integrates pre-colonial, colonial, and modern methods of mapping to respond to contemporary crises of migration, displacement, and climate change in the second decade of the twenty-first century. The Codex Rodriguez-Mondragón remains a work in progress as Rodriguez continues to add new maps and botanical illustrations that record natural and man-made disasters in real time."--Page 9
