Marquetry box in book form
Book-shaped objects for needlework were popular in the 19th and 20th centuries. The four objects in this grouping are needle cases or pin cushions made of wood, beading, and textiles. Note that an identifying feature of wooden needle cases are tubular holes drilled into the box, as shown in the marquetry box. Also interesting are how the makers of the textile objects feature traditional booking details, such as with the beaded needle book, which has a brown spine and gold-tooled lines, in imitation of a quarter-leather binding.
