Spruce gum box, ER. PQ

On View Gallery Watson Library

This box is in spruce gum box format, but larger, and its purpose and meaning are unknown. It was hewn from one piece of wood, with end slides added, then decorated with various carving techniques, painted, and varnished. Both covers have triangle motifs in the corners, but the central designs vary. The spine is carved in relief with ER. PQ. All edges are painted gold to resemble a real book.
