Evening dress
Design House House of Worth French
Not on view
By the 1890s, Worth was using large-sized ornament and was increasing simplifying his silhouette. He created this dress by separating zones of monumental schematic roses with highly stylized bands of rose leaves and sprigs. Worth's rose thus became graphic design, neither botany nor keepsake. The rose's popularity reached an apogee in 1899 with the formation of the American Rose Society.
