Watercolor was well suited to Sargent’s fluid painting technique and his longstanding interest in depicting water. Sargent transforms his pigments into a flowing stream with expressive brushstrokes and dashes of blue paint, which ripple across the surface of his composition to suggest the gentle movement of the current.
