Louis C. Tiffany American
Tiffany Studios

Not on view

This charming example of a Tiffany Studios interior features an iconic tall-case clock nestled in the corner and grand oriental carpet covering the polished wood floor. While the chair and settee complement each other, they are not part of the same set, evoking a sense of stylish ease and hominess. The restrained décor and clear light in this drawing bring to mind the words of Candace Wheeler (1827-1923), a fellow designer and early collaborator of Tiffany's, who wrote in "Principles of Home Decoration" (1903): "To have less would be in many cases to have more - more tranquility of life, more ease of mind, more knowledge and more real enjoyment."
