Girdle

French, Strasbourg

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 544

Purses, rosaries, prayer books, and other small accessories were hung from girdles, which were often given as wedding gifts. The girdle and its two extensions feature the same decorative scheme of cast cupids and foliated scrolls.
