Obverse, Hermes and Poseidon pursuing women Reverse, youth between two women, one carrying a torch
The amorous escapades of the Greek gods are familiar subjects on vases. The depiction on the reverse is more sober; the torch indicates the time of day. Both scenes are directly pertinent to the symposium, where the vase would have been used.
