On the neck, two birds of prey, probably eagles

The decoration may be by the Polyphemos Painter, best known for the impressive depiction in Eleusis of the blinding of Polyphemos by Odysseus. The motifs on the New York vase seem to have been limited to the eagles on the neck, with horizontal stripes and perhaps a narrow subsidiary frieze on the body.
