The U.S.S. Hartford was a three-masted sloop-of-war and the flagship of the United States Navy during the Civil War. Commanded by Rear Admiral David Farragut, she saw action in New Orleans in 1862 and at Vicksburg in 1863. The Hartford patrolled the Mississippi River throughout 1863 and early 1864 from Port Hudson to Vicksburg, preventing the Confederates from receiving desperately needed supplies from the West.
