Dead Christ with Angels

Edouard Manet French
Printer Henri Guérard French

Not on view

When Manet re-etched the plate for the third and final state, he increased the contrast between the lights and darks, perhaps taking it too far in places, as he also scraped and burnished out marks in certain areas. The artist must not have been entirely satisfied with this etching, as he neither published nor exhibited it during his lifetime.
