Nuove inventioni di balli

1604
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 690
Written by a prominent choreographer and dance master in Milan, this treatise played a major role in codifying many aspects of ballroom and stage dancing, at that time chiefly a form of courtly entertainment. The book contains descriptions of forty-three distinct dances, including several choreographed by di Negri himself, together with corresponding sheet music. The illustrations show individuals, couples, and groups in specific poses and formations.
