Pendant
This small pendant would have been one of several on a larger, opulent ornament, perhaps worn around the neck or on the head. A range of different species of gemstones are set within a traditional Indian kundan gold mounting.
This jewel was formerly in the collection of J.P. Morgan (1837–1913), a financier who was a major art collector and patron of The Met. In 1917 Morgan’s son donated this work to the museum, along with approximately 7,000 other works of art from his father’s collection.
